Tests, degrees and exams in French as a foreign language Depending on the time of year, a preparation to the various tests may be offered, in combination with a Training Course for Students. There are several certified levels in French as a foreign language, run by different organisations: TCF: Test of French language ability (Test de Connaissance du Français), created by the International Centre for Pedagogical Studies in Sèvres (CIEP), on request of the Ministry of Education; it assesses the linguistic level of non-French speakers. TCF-DAP: Complementary with the TCF, it is compulsory for the preliminary acceptance of foreigners in first year at a French university. TEF: Test in French Evaluation (Test d’Evaluation du Français), created by the Chamber of Commerce of Paris, it assesses the level of non-French speakers. These tests position the candidates on one of the six levels defined by the European Council and the "Alte" group. The DELF, Degree in French Language Studies (Diplôme d’études en langue française) and the DALF, Superior Degree in French language Studies (Diplome approfondi de langue française) are national degrees, delivered by the Ministry of Education; they officially certify levels of knowledge, practice and skill in French language. There are also Degrees from the Paris Alliance Française and University Degrees. |
